An item referred to a J.I.C. comment reporting that if Brazil declared the war this would support the Allied operations, stabilize the internal situation and could effect the policies of other South American countries. The Brazilian navy consisted of 2 old light cruisers, 7 old destroyers, 9 modern destroyers under construction, 4 submarines and 6 new minelayers.(1)

1. The next day was commented that abusively the 19,281 tons Minas Geraes-class battleships consisting of the Minas Geraes and Sao Paulo, built between 1907-1910, main armament 6x2-30,5cm/12" cal 45 guns were omitted. Brazil declared on 22 August the war on Germany.
