Financial problems for German government due to compensating her merchant shipping according to the Weekly Intelligence Summary No. 3 dated 22 January 1921

An item reported that the German minister of Finance informed the Reichstag that the German government was to pay 17 milliard marks to the shipping companies for surrendering ships etc. Totally was 4,5000,000 register tons lost meaning around 3,800 marks/ton but with the cost prize nowadays even 4,000-5,000 marks/ton resulting that the indemnity of repayment falling short by around 30%.
