Australia feared Japanese landing on the west-northwest coastline according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 14 March 1942

An item reported that the Australian War Office expected a Japanese landing on the west-northwest Australian coast while the Japanese fully appreciated the large amount shipping expected from Colombo, Ceylon through Fremantle, Australia in April, that Darwin was neutralized and Broome and Wyndham were under air attacks and Japanese submarines active off Fremantle and other naval units south of Java, Dutch East Indies.
