Japanese aircraft carrier Kaga probably torpedoed according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 17 March 1942

An item reported that the Japanese aircraft carrier Kaga was bound for Sasebo, Japan. The J.I.C. commented that the Kaga (1) was probably the one torpedoed by American submarines.

1. Part of Tosa-class battleships, preceded by Nagato-class, succeeded by Kii-class, laid down by Kawasaki Shipyard, Kobe, Japan on 19 July 1920, launched on 17 November 1921, completed however as an aircraft carrier (preceded by Akagi, succeeded by Ryujo) to replace the battle cruiser Amalgi which was damaged beyond repairs in the 1923 Great Kanto earthquake, commissioned on 30 November 1929, rebuilt 20 October 1933-25 June 1935, sunk by dive bombers of the American aircraft carrier USS Enterprise in the Battle of Midway on 4 June 1942 and stricken on 10 August 1942.
