Japanese cruisers were sighted near the Kuriles according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 15 August 1942

An item reported that three Japanese Nachi-class cruisers (1) were sighted near the Kuriles probably underway towards Kiska, Rat Islands, Aleutian Islands.
