Russia ordered building of 2 cruisers according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens dated 1908 No. 1

Russian  Maraviev Amurskyy which became the German Pillau which became the Italian Bari

An item reported that the Newski Shipyard was ordered to built 2-4.500 ton cruiser of the Warjag type, lightly armoured,for account of the Russian navy.(1)

1. The protected cruiser Varyag was built by William Cramp&Sons, Philadelphia 1898-1901 and captured by the Japanese after she was scuttled on 9 February 1904, commissioned as Soya on 9 July 1907 and returned to Russia on 5 April 1916. She had a displacement of 6,604 tons. In 1912 were the light cruisers Maraviev Amurskyy and Admiral Nevelskoy ordered in Germany but requisitioned by the German navy and as Pillau and Elbing part of the Pillau-class light cruisers, displacement 4,390 (normal)-5,252 (full load) tons.
