Vichy-France protested against Turkish seizure of French ships according to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf dated 14 July 1941

An item dated Ankara, Turkey 14 July reported that the embassy of the French Vichy-government at Ankara protested against the seizure of French ships at Alexandrette. The French cabinet agreed that the seizure of French auxiliary naval ships was mot in conflict with the law of war but under the French ships which seek refugee at Alexandrette were 5 ships not to be considered warship or auxiliary ship. The Turkish cabinet was requested to release these ships.
