Japanese Taiyo Fishing Company experimenting with tanner crab fishery in the Bering Sea according to the Commercial Fisheries Review dated July 1967 No. 2

An item reported that the Japanese Taiyo Fishing Company planned to experiment with the Banshu Maru No. 5 (gross tonnage 3,678 tons) on tanner crab fishing in the Bering Sea. She was active in the Bering Sea gill-net herring fishery and now also in the tanner crab resorces like in the Bristol Bay. Target was 100-150 tons of frozen crab meat. If the experiment had been a success wanted the company to sent a canning factory ship able to produce 375,00 cases (48.5 lb .can) canned crab meat for the export.
