An item reported that Nikkatsuren (the Japanese Federation of Tuna Fishermen’s Associations) chartered in 1963 the 1,500 tons tanker Shimmei Maru and which refuelled 82 tuna long-fishing vessels at sea. The estimated saving was 3 million tyen or 8,333 US dollars/vessel. The tuna needed not to travel to a harbor for fuel but could keep on fishing.
