Brazil bought British aircraft carrier HMS Vengeance according to the Australia Station Intelligence Summary dated 1 March 1957

An item reported that Brazil acquired the British aircraft carrier HMS Vengeance which was now renamed Minas Gerais. The Brazilian Air Force was to supply the air crews. Last year Argentina intended to purchase an aircraft carrier which could patrol under the South Atlantic Defense Organisation off the Brazilian coast if desired so.(1)

Laid down by Swan Hunter, Tyne an Wear, United Kingdom on 16 November 1942, launched on 23 February 1944, completed on 15 January 1945, commissioned in 1945, decommissioned in 1952, lent to the Australian navy as HMAS Vengeance 13 November 1952-25 October 1955, sold to Brazil on 14 December 1956, commissioned on 6 December 1960, decommissioned on 16 October 2001 and broken up in 2004. Part of Colossus-class light aircraft carrier succeeded by Centaur-class.
