Japanese submarine visited Lorient, France in August 1942

American naval attaché at Paris, France reported in September 1942 referring to an excellent course that the Japanese naval attaché informed the French Intelligence that a Japanese submarine of the Interrogatory 16 class arrived last month at Lorient, France coming from Japan without refuelling. The French Admiralty believed she was refuelled off Cape Good Hope. She carried official mail and a cargo of 20 tons probably including quinine and was now underway to Germany.
