Japan interested in buying British Shackleton Mk. III aircraft according to the Australia Station Intelligence Summary dated 7 January 1956

An item reported that a British company was asked by her agents in Japan about the possibilities of delivering Shackleton Mk. III aircraft (1) probably for replacing the 18 PV-2 Harpoon aircraft (2) of the Japanese air force received from the USA in April 1955.

Notes

1. A maritime reconnaissance anti-shipping aircraft.

2. Lockheed PV-2 Ventura patrol bomber used by the US Navy as an anti-submarine patrol aircraft since 1944.
