An item referred to reported observations in early November in Dairen, Communist China pointed out that the navy now seemed to be active in the Port Arthur-Dairen Area. On 2 November were 2 Tsingtao-based Gordy class destroyers, 6 Shanghai/East coast-based frigates and probably 2 Shanghai-based L.C.I.’s seen. This area was in May handed over by the Soviet Union. Strangely enough was Dairen a commercial harbour and Port Arthur just 20 miles away was a sizeable naval base. What happened with the warships at Port Arthur left behind by the Soviet Union was unknown.
