Built as the sealing ship Bloodhound by Alexander Stephen&Sons, Panmure shipyard, Dundee, Scotland with yard number 53 as the screw steam barque Bloodhound to be used as a sealer off Newfoundland on 2 Augusts1872, registered at St. Johns on 12 March 1873, purchased for the British Arctic Expedition on 5 December 1874, commissioned 13/15 April 1875, storeship since 1880, sold in February 1902, retaining original name and purpose and wrecked in 1917.
