An item referred to the Navy Singapore Press reporting that on 24 December 1941 a Dutch submarine seemed to have sunk a Japanese 2,100 ton Amagiri-class destroyer in East Indian waters.

1. The Dutch submarine Hr.Ms. KXVI sunk on 24 December 1941 the Japanese Fubuki-class destroyer Sagiri on 30 nautical miles north of Kuching, Borneo. Her commander incorrectly identified her as an Amagiri-class destroyer. KXIV laid down by RDM, Rotterdam, Netherlands on 31 May 1930, launched on 8 April 1933, commissioned on 30 January 1934 and sunk by the Japanese submarine I 66 on 25 December 1941. The Sagiri was laid down by Uraga Dock Company on 28 March 1929, launched on 23 December 1929 and commissioned on 31 January 1931.
