An item reported that that the Asiatic division of the US Navy was ordered to be present during the carnival at Manila, Philippines. The protected cruisers USS Cincinnati (Cincinati-class) and Galveston(Denver-class) and the destroyers Dale, Bainbridge, Chauncey and Decatur were already there lying in the Bay and to wait for the end of the carnival. The flagship armored cruiser USS Saratoga (ex-New York 1891-1917, later Rochester 1917-1938) departed some weeks earlier to the Chinese waters. The monitors USS Monadnock and Monterey, submarine tender sloop Mohican and several gunboats, submarines and auxiliary ships arrived in the Philippine waters destined for the bay where a gunshot on the Wallace-field was to open the feasts.
