The unknown fate of surving crew members of a German submarine in November 1941

In his letter No. 1524 IV dated 18 November 1941 referred the German naval attaché in Portugal to the Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine at Berlin to his letter 1524 III dated 15 November dealing with a British “G” type destroyer lying at Ponte Delgado. According to a Italian source were on board of the sunk British auxiliary cruiser Ariosto (1) [in the marge misunderstanding for Cossack?] 48 survivors of a German submarine which fate was unknown. This news was considered to be unreliable. Another Italian source claimed that the 48 men were on board of the British destroyer HMS Legion (2)which arrived on 26 October at Ponte Delgada.
