Dutch submarine Hr.Ms. [ O16] sunk several Japanese ships according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 30 December 1941

An item reported that a Dutch submarine sunk three Japanese large transports and a tanker off the coast of Sarawak in the South China Sea.(1)

1. Probably the Hr.Ms. O16, laid down by Kon.Mij. De Schelde, Vlissingen, Netherlands on 28 December 1933, launched on 27 January 1936, commissioned on 16 October 1936 and sunk after striking a Japanese naval mine near Tionam Island while leaving the Gulf of Thailand/Siam on 14 December. On sunk on 12 December the troop transports Tosan Maru, Asosan Maru and Kinka Maru and damaged a fourth one the Ayatosan Maru.
