French aircraft carrier Clemenceau laid down according to the Australia Station Intelligence Summary dated 1 February 1955

An item reported that the French aircraft carrier Clemenceau was recently laid down at Brest, France and to be completed in 1958. Displacement 22,000 tons and as dimensions 845 x 141 x 26.3 feet. Speed 32 knots and a range of 7,500 nautical miles/18 knots. Armament with 12x2-5.7mm guns. Crew numbered 2,500 men. Fitted out with an angled deck. Carried 60 jet Aquilon aircraft.(1)

1. R98. Laid down by Brest Dockyard in November 1955, launched on 21 December 1957, commissioned on 22 November 1961, decommissioned on 1 October 1997 and broken up between 2009-2010.Part of Clemenceau-class preceded by planned Joffre-class and realized Béarn-class succeeded by Charles de Gaulle.
