British submarine HMS Pandora claimed to have sunk French light cruiser according to the War Cabinet Weekly Résumé No. 45of the Naval, Military and Air Situation 4-12 July 1940

An item reported that the British submarine HMS Pandora (1) claimed to have sunk on 5 July off Algiers, French Algeria a French 15.24cm/6” (light) La Galissonière-class cruiser.(2) Next was the Pandora forced to dive to escape bombs and depth charges.

1. N42. Originally to be named Python but in 1928 decided to rename her Pandora. Part of Parthian-class preceded by Odin-class succeeded by Rainbow-class, ordered on 7 February 1928, laid down by Vickers-Armstrong, Barrow-in-Furness, England on 9 July 1928, launched on 22 August 1929, commissioned on 30 June 1930 and sunk in a Germann air attack on Malta on 1 April 1942.

2. She sunk not a La Galissonière-class cruiser but the French aviso Rigault de Genouilly, laid down by Forges et Chantiers de la Gironde, Lormont, France on 7 July 1931, launched on 18 September 1932, commissioned on 14 March 1934 and sunk on 4 July 1940.
