Proposal by William Haggett of the floating battery Victoria A.1 dated 1862

Described as a combines three deck battery. Drawing NPC9310 mentioned a gun deck with 71 guns. Drawing NPV9311 illustrated what was possible if two ships with extra engines were combined: “Combination when more than 1 ship is employed with extra engines to give greater speed”. Drawing NPC9315 is title ‘Battery with one vessel 70 guns” and shows “a combined deck floating battery, a single deck floating battery and the framing and plating”. 1. William Haggett (1808-1887), architect of profession and surveyot. Held some patents including Haggett’s Improved Method of Treating Metals&c. to increase their strength, filed 20 September 1859 and one dated 24 April 1862 for improvements in locomotive engines and carriages for railroads, tram and common roads.
