Part of Project 651 named by NATO Juliett-class preceded by Echo-class succeeded by Charlie-class. Designed in end 1950s by a team with as chairman Abram Samuilovich Kassatsier. Building planned of 35 boats but 19 were cancelled and 16 completed. Laid down by Krasnoye Sormovo Shipyard No. 112, Gorky on 31 January 1963, launched on 11 March 1965, commissioned on 31 October 1965, renamed B-77 in 1977, stricken in 1994, sunk in 2007, refloated in 2008 and sold to be broken up in August 2009.
