French naval tanker Le Loing visited the Dutch East Indies in 1935

The Jaarboek van de Koninklijke Nederlandsche Zeemacht 1935-1936 reported that the French Le Loing visited the Dutch East Indies harbours Batavia between 29-29 November 1936 and Tarakan between 4-6 and 22-25 December 1935. The Dutch newspaper Soerabijasch handelsblad dated 28 November reported her arrival at 16:00 o’clock at Tandjong Priok of the armed French naval tanker Loing which would stay until the 29. De Indische courant dated 4 December 1935 published an item dated Batavia the 4th reporting that the French steam tanker Loing which already visited Batavia now visited Tarakan between the 4-6 December. In December 1936 she visited again Batavia as part of a French squadron. She was described as a tanker with a displacement of 10,000 ton at the loadline and an armament of 2-10 cm guns and 2-3.7cm anti aircraft guns.(1)

Launched by Ateliers et Chantiers de Seine Maritime (ACSM), Le Trait, France on 4 April, scuttled at La Pallice in June 1940, salvaged by Germans in 1941, repaired and renamed Wangerland, commissioned in the Kriegsmarine, damaged in an Allied air attack on Nantes, France on 16 or 23 September 1943 and scuttled by Germans as blockship on 11 August 1944.
