An item reported that on 2 July the Panamanian merchant ship Santa Margarita, tonnage 4, 919 tons, in ballast, underway from Barry, England to Hampton Roads, USA was lost by gunfire 230 miles west of Ushant, France. Not part of convoy. 18 Crew members landed at Corunna, (Coruna, Spain?) 22 men missing.
