Russian press claiming sinking of German battleship SMS Deutschland according to the Dutch newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 6 July 1915

An item dated Petrograd, Russia dated 5th July reported that the German warship Deutschland leading a German squadron exploded while entering the entrance of the harbour of Danzig.(1)

1. Part of Deutschland-class pre-dreadnought battleships preceded by Braunschweig-class succeeded by Nassau-class. Laid down by Germaniawerft, Kiel, Germany with the provisional name “N” on 20 June 1903, launched on 19 November 1904, commissioned on 3 August 1906, decommissioned on 10 September 1917, stricken on 25 January 1920 and sold to be broken up. In July 1915 executing coastal patrol duties off the Elbe.
