Laid down by Chantiers de Penhoet, Saint Naizaire, France for account of the ompagnie Générale Transatlantique on the line Le Havre, France-Southampton, England-New York, USA on 26 January 1931, launched on 29 October 1932, completed in 1933, maiden voyage begun on 29 May 1935, interned on 3 September 1939, seized by the USA at New York on 12 December 1941, transfer to the USN officially approved on 02 December 1941, renamed USS Lafayette on 31 December 1941, classified as transport AP-53, conversion into troop transport awarded on 27 December 1941, while being converted into a troop ship caught fire and capsized on 9 February 1942, renamed Lafayette and classified as an aircraft and transport ferry APV-4 on 15 September 1943, never rebuilt, stricken on 11 October 1945, sold on 3 October 1946 and broken up between October 1946-31 December 1948.
