Movements of the Greek and Turkish navies in the Mediterranean according to the Dutch newspaper Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 26 November 1821

Venice, 10 November. Some considerable trading houses received letters from Zante dated 14 and 15 October giving details about the capture of Tripolitza and the sea battle. The Turkish fleet with strength of around 50 warships and 40 smaller vessels, captured at Galaxidi, was attacked by the Grecians 11 October between Zante and Scangafo, after a fight of 10 hours the Turkish fleet entered Zante being in a very worse condition. She lost 1 brig, 2 goelettes and 3 of her prizes. Other letters stated that the Turkish losses were considerable larger. The Greeks formed a line off Zante and their strength was according to a reliable eyewitness 82 ships. The Grecian commanding officer landed 14 October for a conference with the government of the island. The Turkish fleet left Zante at daybreak of the 15th.
