An item reported that if the USA decided to occupy the Philippines Germany would protest.(1) The arrival of the German warship Darmstadt was expected immediately after the occupation. A German transport with 1,400 men seemed to be underway while two German warships with 1,500 men were anchored at Manila. The journalist that the German presence was at least a problem for the USA even if it were just rumours spread by England to disturb the American-German relations.
