The US Atlantic squadron according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1930 no. 7

An item referred to the magazines U.S.R. dated 22 September and the M.R. dated October both dealing with the founding of an US Atlantic squadron. The US cabinet decided that this squadron was to be stationed at the Atlantic coast with as core 7 new 10.000 ton cruisers of the Phoenix class. To this core were added 4-18.50 ton destroyers and 4-1.500 ton destroyers. The squadron was to participate in the large fleet manoevres between January and February 1939 in the Caribbean. In peace time were in the Atlantic Ocean stationed:
1. A training squadron consisting of the battleships New York, Arkansas and Texas, the training ship Wyoming and 13 aged destroyers
2. At the submarine base at New London the light cruiser Richmond and 8 submarines of the ‘R’ and ‘S’-classes
3. At the submarine base Coco Solo 6 submarines of the ‘S’-class.
