Portuguese naval shipbuilding program according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad 1894-1895 no. 9

An item reported that if the funds could be find found the Portuguese navy was strengthened by several new ships. The program included:

Argentinean Independencia

2 battleships of the Argentinean Independencia design of 2.500 ton, 3.000 ihp, a speed of 15 miles, a armour belt of 20cm and a armoured deck of 5cm thickness. The coal bunker capacity was sufficient for a range of 4.500 nautical miles with a speed of 10 miles. The first was to be delivered in 1897, the second in 1899.

Argentinean Nueve de Julia

2 cruisers of the Argentinean –de-Julio design of 3.600 ton, 14.500 ihp, a speed of 23 miles, a horizontal armour with a thickness of 11,5cm. The coal bunker capacity was sufficient for a range of 10.00 nautical miles with a speed of 10 miles. The first was to be delivered in 1897, the second in 1900.
2 cruisers comparable with the Austrian Mildura and the French Linois designs of 2.600 ton, 6.000-7.000 ihp and a speed of 19-20 miles. he coal bunker capacity was sufficient for a range of 4. 50 nautical miles with a speed of 10 miles. The first was to be delivered in 1897, the second in 1899.
4 corvettes of an improved Alfonso de Albuquerque design of 1.300 ton to be delivered in 1895, 1896, 1899 and 1900.
12 torpedo boats 1st class of 120 ton
3 aviso torpedo boats of 600 ton, type Spider of Hornet
1 transport of 4.000-6.000 ton, speed 16 miles, to be delivered in 1898.
