The Brazilian navy versus the Portuguese navy according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 16 June 1823

Rio Janeiro, 18 March. Lord Cochrane arrived with a 16-gun brig and started the negotiations dealing with the supreme command of the Brazilian navy with the negotiations and visited 17 March together with the emperor all ships. The same day a complete embargo for war- and merchant ships was announced. An expedition towards Bahia was fitted out and consisted of one ship of the line, 4 frigates and a corvette. The naval force of the Portuguese consisted of 1-80 gun ship of the line, 1 frigate, 1 corvette and 6 vessels armed with at least 20 guns, all fitted out and supported by the fortress of Bahia. The fleet is since 6 March at sea and sailing towards an addition of another 2.000 men coming from Lisbon. Another much larger addition escorted by the San Sebastian was also expected.
