The Greek and Turkish navies in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 23 April 1823

Zante, 13 March. All Greek islands were busy with fitting out fairways and stations with fire ships and rockets where the Turkish squadron probably could appear. At that moment were 40 complete armed and fitted out ships cruising off the African coasts especially off Cape Bon to prevent ships from the Barbary States to depart to sea or to fight with these. The Austrian brig Montecuculi master Patimen who tried to victual the Turkish in the besieged castle of Patras was hold up by 3 Greek vessels and brought to Zante. Original source for these tidings was the newspaper Journal des Débats.
