The Turkish navy according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant in 1776

28 September 1776. Constantinople, 14 August. Everything was done to strengthen the navy making her comparable with the navies of other countries. To prevent a lacking of sailors all muslims were forbidden on the penalty of death to sign on foreign ships.

19 September 1776. Constantinople, 3 August. In an extra ordinary meeting (the so-called Divan) it was decided to enlarge the fleet to a number of 50 units.
