An item referred to the Le Yacht dated December 1939 reporting that the Spanish naval base at Ferrol was to be considerable modernized. According to rumors was on short notice the first ship under the new fleet plan to be laid down. This plan including the building of some heavy cruisers and 1-35.000 ton battleship.(1)
Note
1. Never realized. The battleship was to be based on the Italian Littorio-class for which Italian support was assured and a sufficient slipway was built at Ferrol for this purpose. The Littorio-class had ad displacement of 41.376 (standard)-45,963 (full load) tons and a main armament of 3x3-38,1cm.15,0” 50 cal guns.Further more was a Spanish super treaty cruiser planned, to be armed with 6-30,5cm/12” guns although some rumors claimed with 2x3-28,3cm/11.1 gun turrets of the German battle ship Gneisenau.
