German protected cruiser SMS Kaiserin Augusta underway towards China according to the Dutch newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 24 November 1897

An item dated London, England 23 November reported that the German cruiser Kaiserin Augusta entered the Suez-Canal coming from Crete, Greece and bound for China to strengthen the German squadron. Probably a second German navy steamship was also bound for China.(1)

Designed between 1887-1889, finally design by Dietrich. Laid down by Germania werft, Kiel, Germany as Creuzer II or Classe H in 1890, launched on 15 January 1892, commissioned on 17 November 1892, stricken on 1 October 1919 and broken up in 1920
