Japan reducing strength of the navy in active service according to the Weekly Intelligence Summary No. 23 dated 11 December 1920

An item reported that Japan forced by economic reasons decreased by 1 December her navy to the half resulting in 2 battleships, 2 battle cruisers, 6 light cruisers (some would join after completion) and 16 destroyers. The 2 cruisers belonging to the Training Squadron and the gunboats serving on the Yangtse river would also stayed in service. The other ships were stationed at the naval harbours returning to an instant readiness state. The number of effective fleet numbered around 7 battleships, 4 battle cruisers, 4 light cruisers an 40 destroyers without mentioning the submarines.
