Part of the F-class submarines, preceded by E-class, succeeded by G-class, launched by Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation/Union Iron Works, San Francisco, USA on 6 September 1911, renamed F-1 on 17 November 1911, commissioned on 19 June 1912 and sunk due to a collision with the USS F-3 off Point Loma, San Diego, USA on 17 December 1917.
