Soviet Q-class submarines according to the Australia Station Intelligence Summary dated 8 May 1957

An item reported that it was certain that the Soviet Q-class submarines were fitte out with 3 screws of small dimensions allowing a lower silent speed than first anticipated. There were now doubts of what kind of propulsion was used.

Note

1. Quebec-class succeeded by M-class, 30 built between 1952-1957, fitted out with 3-shafts for 2 conventional diesel engines and 1 closed-cycle liquid oxygen fuelled diesel engine which provided an air-independent propulsion while submerged.
