Italian protected cruiser Vesuvio visiting Tandjong-Priok, Dutch East Indies according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 28 April 1902

An item reported the arrival that morning around 06.00 o’clock of the Italian cruiser Vesuvius (1)at Tandjong-Priok, Dutch East Indies coming from Amoy, China and bound towards Mahé, Seychelles. Crew numbered 300 men, armed with 12 guns and commanded by a captain. Except for the normal exchange of gun salutes no ceremonies. Date of departure unknown. Another Dutch newspaper De Locomotief dated 12 May reported her departure on the north towards Mahé, commander was captain Zezi. 2)

1. Laid down by Cantiere navala fratelli Orlando, Livorno, Italy on 10 July 1883, launched on 21 March 1886, commissioned on 16 March 1888, stricken on 11 May 1911 and sold to be broken up in 1911. Part of the Etna-class protected cruisers consisting of the Etna, Stromboli, Vesuvio and Ettore Fieramosca, preceded by the Giovanni Bausan and succeeded by the Dogali.
